Acceptance will include a CSU Academic Select Agreement number and an Academic Student Select Enrollment number. These numbers will be specific to each enrollment and will be needed when placing orders for Student licenses (or faculty media).

Ordering Product

With the Student Select Contract, there are two items that must be purchased. The license that grants the student the right to use the software and the CD-ROM to install the software. The current product listing can be found on Attachment 1.

Orders for student licenses and media (or faculty media) must be submitted in minimum quantities of 25 per product, per order. Once the 25 unit minimum is met for that order, other products may be ordered in any quantity.

Orders should be placed with Brad Hickey at ASAP Software Express, Inc., and by one of the following methods:

  • Procurement/Credit Card
  • Purchase Order
  • On-Line using ASAP E-Way

Selling Product

To sell to the student, students must complete the Microsoft Student Select License Agreement. The two page agreement is found at the end of the Student Select Enrollment form. Upon completion of the Microsoft Student Select License Agreement, this form will become the legal license for the software the student is purchasing. The form should be filled out as follows:

  • The top portion will need to be filled out with the Academic Select Agreement number and Academic Student Select Agreement number.
  • Fill out the product and version the student will be purchasing.
  • Have the student complete and sign page 8.

Once the form has been filled out, the student will take away a copy and the bookstore will retain a copy for its records. The student may then take a copy of the CD-Rom for the appropriate software.

Records must be maintained of all transactions being made with students in accordance with page 5, section 5 of the Microsoft Student Select Enrollment.

Frequently Asked Questions

The student wants Office 2000, but I only see a license for Office XP, what do I order? You will always need to purchase a license for the current version of the Microsoft Product. The current version license will grant the Student Down-Grade rights, which will allow them to install Office 2000.
How many installations can the student make the Windows OS? The Windows Operating System will install on one computer an unlimited amount of times (if the PC were to crash, the student can reinstall the software). When the software is installed, the student will be required to register the product with Microsoft or the product will not install. The registration will take the Key Code of the CD-Rom and a Serial number from the computer and store them in a Microsoft Database, as long as these two numbers match, the CD-Rom will keep installing on that computer.
How many installations can the student make with the Office family? Office can be installed on two computers that belong to one student. Under the product use rights, the student can install Office on one desktop and one portable device (laptop). The student must own both devices. When the software is installed, the student will be required to register the product with Microsoft, or the product will not install. The registration will take the Key Code of the CD-Rom and a Serial number from the computer and store them in a Microsoft Database. As long as these two numbers match, the CD-Rom will keep installing on either of the two computers.
We had a rental program in place, can we still rent to students under the new contract? The new contract does not include any type of rental program. All current rental programs are not valid after 12/31/02.
Can we make a “burned” copy of the Student CD-Rom? The duplication of Student CD-Roms is strictly prohibited.
How many units can the student purchase? Students are eligible to purchase one copy of each Software product. A license is considered one copy for that student.
I don’t see Frontpage or Visual Studio .NET on the pricelist, can I still purchase them? Frontpage and Visual Studio .NET are not covered under this agreement, and therefore can not be sold to students as of 12/31/02. If you have stock left over for these items, they can be sold to faculty or staff members within the CSU System. Faculty and Staff do not need licensing for Frontpage or Visual Studio .Net.
I am still getting requests for Frontpage and Visual Studio .Net. You can purchase these products as a full package product (FPP). The FPP includes one license and one CD-Rom. These can be ordered at anytime, in any quantity.
What price do I charge the students for the license and software? The assignment of price will be up to each individual store. The pricelist has your cost and the list price of the product.
When can I order, and what is the lead time of the media? You can order as your stock runs low, as long as the 25 unit minimum is met per order. The typical lead time varies on the quantities that are being requested, with an average lead time of 14 days. We recommend placing your order at least 3 weeks prior to the start of a new semester/trimester.
